The Realisation

The Realisation

One evening about four years after moving in my daughter was making her normal trip to her Nana’s house,  I turned messing to her and said she was not to have a bath in  Nana’s, what is it with Nana’s, is her bath better then ours?  My daughter turned and said Mum I do not like having a bath here as I feel like there is someone watching me.  I laughed it off but I went stone cold.  I resigned myself to speaking with my husband that evening.

That evening when the children had gone to bed I spoke with my husband.  I told him about the figure in the hall, I reminded him of my son’s ghost brothers, my daughters feeling in the bath, things going missing and the coldness on the landing.  I thought he would laugh and I was prepared for an endless slagging, but this did not happen, he said he was the same in the bathroom.  We agreed that something was strange with the house.

I mentioned the conversation to my Mum and Dad, Dad said I was an idiot and Mum was supportive in my belief.

We continued living in the house, with the coldness, smell, things going missing and the feeling of not been alone.  But my suspicions were one day to be confirmed and this has led us to currently investigate the spirit as best we can.

The Uninvited Guest - House 104: Early Days

The Uninvited Guest - House 104: Early Days: Early Days After a few weeks we got an indescribable smell in the entrance hall area and on the landing.   Convinced that we had pack...

Early Days

Early Days

After a few weeks we got an indescribable smell in the entrance hall area and on the landing.  Convinced that we had packed a perishable under the stairs we went about removing everything.  We found nothing.  The smell disappeared after about four days.

Cameras, clocks, controllers and anything containing batteries seemed to be using a lot of batteries.  Each week during the grocery shopping we spent a small fortune restocking batteries.  When we replaced the camera and controllers we opted for the rechargeable kind to try and reduce the cost of batteries.

A few weeks after moving when watching television in the sitting room I noticed a figure moving along the hall.  This figure was tall and thin.  I thought it was my eyes playing tricks.  This figure continues to pass through the hall on a regular basis still to this day.  By regular I mean every day to each month.

About six months after moving in I heard my son whom was three at the time talking away in his room.  Thinking that one of his sisters was with him I paid no attention to it.  When I called the children for lunch I noticed that the girls did not come from upstairs but from the back garden.  I asked whom he was talking to and he replied ‘My Ghost Brothers’.  The girls and daddy started laughing and slagging him.  I was not so dismissive of it as I had seen the shadowy figure for the last several months but I had not spoken of it to anyone.  The ‘My Ghost Brother’ updates remained until he was about seven.  He spoke less and less as time went by and now at eleven never speaks of it.

On the landing even though we had hick double glazing it was often felt several degrees colder than even the external temperature.  We installed a radiator at the top of the stairs but this did not solve the problem.  Draught excluders, extra insulation and heavier curtains were installed but nothing resulted in retaining the heat in the house.  It often felt like this even during the summer.

It was around nine months after we moved in that the first items started to go missing.  It ranged    from jewellery, money, passports, driving licences, letters and photographs.   I am an organised person by my nature with an indexed filing box for all the important documents.  I could always put my hand on what was required at a moments notice.

When items started going missing, I dismissed it as age and kids, but when items started to reappear in the most obvious of places I then began to think the kids or my husband were playing tricks on me.  This progressed in severity to me actually thinking that my husband was trying to commit me to a mental institution.

One time we had gone travelling in June, we returned and the passports were replaced in the filing box.  We planned to go away in September again and in August been the organised person I thought I was, I went to retrieve them and leave in an area that they would be handy for packing.  The passports were all there except for mine.  I spent the next two weeks searching every inch of the house to no avail.  I eventually gave up and applied for a replacement one.  It arrived one day to spare.  Several days after we returned from the holiday my original passport was found sitting on the unit in the dinning room.  This area had been searched and cleaned several times since it went missing.  No one had an explanation.

The Move

The Move

My family and I moved home seven years ago.  I had viewed many houses but the we decided on was located across the road from my parents house who were in their late 70’s and early  80’s so was therefore ideal.    We put a deposit on it the next day and prepared the children for moving.

The day arrived for moving.  It was eight pm before we got the keys of the house.  The children slept in my parents that night, my husband and I got to sorting a bit of the house out.  I felt I was being watched in the house that night but was unsure about the feelings and I put it down to the first night in a strange house.   My mobile phone’s battery died that evening.  This I thought strange but down to excessive calls that day.  Over the next few days we put the house in order, unpacking boxes and trying to arrange the glass wear.

The Decision to Blog or Wiki

The Decision to Blog or Wiki

As part of my Introduction to Computers module we were assigned a choice of project, either a blog or a knowledge base.  I had initially chosen the wiki based knowledge base as I felt that I would have nothing interesting to write in a blog that would encapsulate my targeted audience.  A change of heart came suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday the 15th May 2012 at 8:00pm the day prior to our ultimate and binding decision.

All our lecturers in room 3.03 were having recurrent problems with the batteries in the microphone and tonight was no exception.  We took a break at 7:40pm but when we arrived back the clock had not moved.  The batteries in the clock had stopped working, our lecturer commented on this and commenced talking about the eminent projects.  The mic cut out several times.  The batteries failing may seem like a coincidence to the reader but to me it was like a lighting bolt or more exactly an electric bulb moment.  I though about the battery incident for the rest of the evening and I awoke the next morning fully decided to pursue the blog.

The blog would be about my house - A Haunted House.  I had been wondering who the spirit was visiting our house for over three years.  I hoped contributors' to my blog would help me in uncovering the mystery.

Over the next couple of days I will post the history of the house from when we moved in and then the voyage of discovery can begin.  I can’t wait to start but I am going to need a lot of advice  from all viewing this post.  Thanks in advance
